Sony Introduces New 4K XAVC

Sony in recent years has presided over the video market not only with appliances and devices, but also working on the front of formats. The AVCHD format, developed in collaboration with Panasonic, has become a standard in the market, for example.
 
Sony has also worked on higher resolutions and presented the new recording format XAVC, which will form the basis of new products for the market 4K. XAVC from Sony offers a format designed specifically for the professional 4K: not only feature films, but also genres such as fiction, entertainment, documentaries and commercials.

Sony developed the format XAVC to offer a scalable codec and able to meet the different needs and evolving content production and 4K HD120P and assists its launch to the new 4K Pro Camcorder .

  
The format of XAVC Sony uses MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 level 5.2. XAVC offers a wide range of operational capabilities for the production of content, including by proxy at 4K pixel resolution, patterns, intra-frame and long GOP and infrastructure 1080/50P/60P. 
The format of Sony XAVC is capable of supporting:

• Resolution 4K (4096 x 2160 and 3840 x 2160), HD and proxy   
• Video compression MPEG-4 AVC/H.264  
• Depth of color, 8, 10 and 12 bit  
• Up to 60 fps  
• Using the MXF wrapper format  
• Sub-sampling the chroma 4:2:0, 4:2:2 and 4:4:4

 
 XAVC was developed as an open format and offers a licensing program for other companies in the broadcast and production that enables the development of third-party products of high quality and high frame rates. The workflow and format XAVC Sony will be supported by the following manufacturers:
   

• Non-linear Editor: Adobe, Apple, Avid, Grass Valley, Quantel, Sony (Vegas Pro)  
• Daily on the set: Codex, Colorfront, MTI, YoYotta  
• Gradation of color: Assimilate, FilmLight  
• Management software codecs: Rovi  
• Codec board: Matrox
