2K Games hires the developer of Lineage for Civilization Online

Headquartered in Coreal South XLGames is the studio responsible for the popular MMORPG Lineage, which has over 43 million players. Under the direction of Jake Song, this software company is working with the team that oversaw the development of the original Civilization, Firaxis Games, on an online version designed specifically for the Asian markets.

"Making our intellectual property available in all parts of the world is an important component of our growth strategy," said Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Take-Two. "Our online and social projects in Asia are allowing Take-Two to further expand its global presence and capture the audience through a variety of platforms and business models. If you have success, moreover, these projects will also improve our core business, with revenue streams and profit margins will be higher and more stable over time. "

There are no precise characteristics on the gameplay of Civilization Online. Song, however, is leading a team of 100 people, making it one of the biggest Civilization Online gaming products to South Korea

Civilization Online joins NBA 2K Online, NBA 2K All-Stars and Pro Baseball in the strategy for the Asian markets of 2K Games. In these cases we have chosen the model free to play, and it most likely will be repeated with Civilization Online.

Firaxis has already tried the way of the free to play with his series of turn-based management with Sid Meier's Civilization World , but that project did not achieve the expected results.
