Nintendo Wii: the revolution is in the controller (Wii)

Introduction

July 15, 1983, Nintendo enter the Japanese market Nintendo Entertainment System, amicably known as NES. Revolution begins, or, more peremptorily, begins the history of video games as well as we understand them today. Before Nintendo video games were something else: of course, we always talk about great titles like Pong, Spacewar, Space Invaders, Pac-Man, and many others, but probably all of these titles welcomed just part of the concept of video gaming as we know it today.

On the other hand, the crisis of large companies involved in the games industry in 1983 shows that it was necessary reversal, reverse all the experts in video game history to recognize Nintendo. The chance to play at home with a system that offered a gaming experience similar to that offered by the coin-op did favor the acquisition of NES many people. Nintendo brought a new kind of experience in the homes of gamers.

The great masterpieces of Shigeru Miyamoto completed the work. Mario, Donkey Kong, The Legend of Zelda, Star Fox and Pikmin series are unforgettable, and for fans of the big N and for those who simply love video games in the broadest sense. Obviously, these must be added a thousand other titles: Metroid, Mega Man, Castlevania, Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest are just a few of the list. Basically, Nintendo held the post in the early '80s was the prerogative of Commodore and Atari, moving considerably the gaming world from west to east. That success was repeated in 1990 with another great game machine: the Super NES.

The history of Nintendo culminates maximum in those years. With the market entry of Sony, in fact, lost its role as the undisputed leader to move back into a slice of the market that certainly can not be defined niche, but just as certainly not the main one. In 1996 it was the turn of Nintendo 64 and in 2001 (2002 for Europe) is up to the GameCube. On 7 December 2006 will, finally, the date to remember for the debut on the Italian market of Nintendo Wii.

Well, with a history of innovation and product memorable what can we expect now from a console that even in name, although in that momentary, remember the revolution? Nintendo Wii console is definitely a key to the Japanese society, which now has the opportunity to return to former glory. Fundamental thanks to a campaign that probably has no precedent in the house and that Nintendo was able to involve not only gamers but also those who invest in the world of video games. If Wii was snubbed at first by so-called third-party vendors, the various Electronic Arts, Activision, Ubisoft, Midway are now highly concentrated to flesh out the Nintendo catalog.

This could be yet another reversal in the world Nintendo has always been used for almost all products made in-house. On the other hand, is not Wii revolution from the point of view purely technological. We must not expect games from revolutionary gameplay in the sense of physics, artificial intelligence, graphics. Wii is not dramatically more powerful, from the point of view exquisitely hardware, compared to its predecessor. Nintendo has stated that the same is not intended as a next-generation consoles as well as we intend to PlayStation 3 and XBox 360, while Shigeru Miyamoto even stated that his initial idea was to not spend anything for the technical aspect of the console and to concentrate on the gameplay of video games and how they interface.

Once reached its mode of interfacing break through a door already opened widely. It is now said everything and more about the famous Wii remote, the real revolution that Nintendo Wii delivery to the world of video games. Finally now we have between us, we can bring into our homes and finally immerse in the charm Nintendo Wii and especially the charm: a charm, now we can say with good reason, has no precedent in the world of video games.
