Samsung SM843 and SM1625, new Enterprise SSD

Samsung has unveiled two new families of Enterprise SSD designed for the world. To distinguish more units in that field is the weight given to the reliability, combined of course with speed performance that are also good.

The series SM843 (2.5-inch, 7mm thick cuts of 120GB, 240GB and 480GB) is proposed as a solution for entry-level and mainstream (for the Enterprise sector, better remember), and is made with firmware, controller and NAND flash chips of the same Samsung.

The production technology of the chip is to 20nm MLC, while the interface chosen is that SATA 6Gbps. Earlier versions proposed by Samsung in this group gave more weight to performance in reading: The new series is instead declared a greater balance between reading and writing. These performances are of 530MB per second read and 420MB per second write, although surprising is the lengthening of the average life of the unit.

Samsung recalls that the previous series, already high, could boast an average lifespan of 60TBW (more often in the Enterprise using the TBW instead of MTBF), taking as a reference packet writing 8k, write-amplification of 1.3. The new models extend the life of the unit by more than 17 times, as well 1064TBW accredited.
